DAF - DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION
How it works: Dissolved air flotation is a physical process using fine air bubbles which attach to suspended solids lifting them to the surface of the DAF cell. As the solids reach the surface the sludge becomes compacted and continues to de-water. The system is designed to scrape the sludge from the surface carrying it up and over a beach area into a collection hopper for conveying to sludge holding tanks. The clean water is allowed to discharge, and is either pumped or discharged by gravity to further treatment or discharge to sewer.

Uses: Flotation has proven to work effectively and economically in meat-processing factories, slaugterhouses, poultry processing, fish-processing, dairies and canning factories among others. |
Benefits: In these applications the DAF will reduce suspended solids, fats and greases in a well sized system by around 90%. When used in conjunction with chemical dosing greater removal rates can be achieved with colloidal material and some surfactants also being removed. |
Main parts of flotation unit are:
- Flotation tank - is divided into inlet, flotation, sedimentation, flotation, sludge removal and water discharge.
- Recirculation circuit – re-circulated water is injected with air and is held in suspension until released into the flotation zone. The pressure vessel is certified according to CE 97/23
- Scraper – removes sludge from the surface of the DAF cell.
- Optional Chemical Dosing – includes: Primary coagulant and flocculation chemicals
