Berkhamstead, Thames Water: Case Study
March 2009

Filter refurbishment program
Purpose of rental unit:
To provide additional nitrification to works whilst trickling filters were refurbished
Consent standard required:
3mg/l NH4
Total flow to the unit: 21l/s @ 1 hours retention (50 minutes is minimum retention to achieve nitrification)
Unit supplied:
1 x Steel 1000pe wastewater treatment unit with duty standby blowers
Our 1000pe steel SAF unit was initially rented by Thames Water and later purchased, the unit was required to work along side 2 other rental units, the ammonia consent was rather stringent at 3mg/l.
Throughout the rental period our NSAF achieved consistently reliable results, typically producing an effluent quality less than 2mg/l
The unit supplied for this application was constructed within an ISO container for ease of transportation, within the ISO container we housed both the control panel and the duty standby blower units, the obvious benefit here being that the unit does not require additional kiosks, interconnecting pipe work and cables as they are already hard wired within the unit.
Access ladders and hand railing were also supplied to ensure the unit was fully compliant with Thames Water specification.
