BOO! A Manufacturer in Hampshire receives a nice surprise with WPL’s Build Own Operate Solution.
March 2009
WPL Limited was invited to review the trade effluent costs of a manufacturer in Hampshire.
Since 2005, their Southern Water effluent charges have continuously and significantly increased, rising from around £6,000.00 per month to nearly £10,000 per month in 2009.
These types of increases are not just applicable to Southern Water’s customers, but also across all Water Utilities in England, with South West Water having the greatest increases.
Furthermore, in Scotland there will also be significant increases in trade effluent costs, when existing subsidies are removed. The result of this will see increases of over 26%, year on year, for the next three years.
However, on a more positive note, WPL Limited can offer a comprehensive range of trade effluent and wastewater treatment solutions, significantly reducing trade effluent charges by as much as 80%
Taking into account the complex nature of trade effluent treatment, compounded with the present economic climate affecting most industries at the moment, WPL Limited were able to propose a choice of options for the Hampshire based manufacturer.
Manufacturer
Southern Water Charges 2009 Effluent Volume → 1,111 m3 per month C.O.D. → 8,000 mg/l S.S. → 1500 mg/l = £9,989.00 Total monthly effluent discharge charge
Data taken from Envirowise.gov Mogden calculator
With WPL Effluent Treatment Solution Effluent Volume → 1,111 m3 per month C.O.D.→ 1,200 mg/l S.S. → 75 mg/l = £2,125.00 Total monthly cost using WPL solution
WPL can reduce trade effluent discharge costs by a massive £7,864.00 per month. |
BOO - Build Own Operate.
This type of solution offered by WPL Limited, includes supplying the equipment, consumables and the labour to operate the equipment on site. This would give cost savings of over 20% in 2009 compared with current charges. As the equipment and consumables only increase by inflation, say 3%, future savings will be significantly higher if water PLC’s continue with a 13% price increase year on year
WPL Limited Inputs: → On- site treatment → Processed effluent to Southern Water
·Equipment and labour to operate
·Sludge disposal
·Capital investment
·Consumables and spares
Manufacturer Inputs: → On- site treatment → Processed effluent to Southern Water
·Power supply

So, with trade effluent charges set to increase by a National average of 13% per annum, a BOO scheme from WPL makes zero-risk, excellent financial sense.
